La Vía Campesina calls for people around the world to “Cool Down the Planet” with their series of activities this month. La Vía Campesina will host a Global Alternative Forum at their Camp for Life and Environmental & Social Justice from December 4-10 in Cancún.

The first day of this forum will focus on education: reportbacks from the four international and national caravans organized by La Vía Campesina, information from the official negotiations about various climate policies, presentation of the official conclusions from the Global People’s Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth in Bolivia earlier this year.

The second day will focus on alternative solutions to climate change with reports from campesinos, electrical union workers, the National Assembly of Affected Environments, and the Migrant Agricultural Workers’ Union; the day will end with a march and actions.

The third and fourth days will focus on action: La Vía Campesina calls on people in Cancún to take action on December 6, and on communities around the world to participate in a Global Day of Action for Climate Justice on December 7!

The final days of this forum will bring together a Permanent People’s Tribunal and information and debate from the official COP climate negotiations.

Civil society organizations, social movements, nationally and internationally organized indigenous communities together in coordination with international networks and organizations and constituted as an International Committee call for discussion, mobilization and intervention in the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP-16) in the city of Cancun, Mexico, December 3-11. This mobilization will be accompanied by a number of activities in Mexico and around the world and will include the national and international caravans that are expected to arrive in Cancun.

La Vía Campesina informó que en el contexto de la Conferencia de Naciones Unidas sobre Cambio Climático (COP16), este lunes llegarán al Distrito Federal los contingentes de algunas de las caravanas que recorren diversos lugares de lucha campesina, social y ambiental en México.
